Meister Law taking on the big guns

Tonya Meister fights for those with no voice

'A different set of rules applies to victims of crimes at sea' By DONNA BALANCIA, CFLJ Editor MIAMI Its not easy to stage a battle in international waters. But thats what maritime attorney Tonya Meister faces every day at Meister Law LLC of Miami. At best, Meisters job is rewarding. She fights for the rights of wronged crewmembers, advocates for victims of crimes on the high seas, and helps make stormy waters still. At worst, Meister is bucking the stacked cards of the corporations, which have centuries-old maritime laws and legal loopholes on their side. Mark Nation

By DONNA BALANCIA, TFLJ Editor ORLANDO -- Mark Nation loves the word "No." At a time when insurance claims are being denied more than ever, Nation, founder of Central Florida-based The Nation Law Firm, said it's time for claimants to fight back. "'No' is the beginning of the inquiry," Nation told The Florida Law Journal. "It frustrates me when people make a claim, the insurance company says 'No' and then they just think that's the end of it," Nation said. "That is not the end, it's the beginning." The Nation Law Firm handles a wide range of personal injury and property damage cases. Nation said that of all the cases he has handled in the last several years, the majority recently are insurance claim denials. "I've handled thousands of insurance cases, and every one of them starts with a no," he said. "Don't give up, that's only the beginning of the claim." Nation said he … [Read more...]

CVS Caremark Under Scrutiny

By DOTTIE PARIS, Staff Writer TALLAHASSEE -- A task force comprised of several states including Florida is looking into allegations of anti-competitive practices by CVS Caremark Corp., the pharmacy benefits manager and drugstore chain. The claims are pursuant to the companys 2007 merger. Bill McCollum, Floridas attorney general is among the participants in the group effort, according to various reports. "Although we respond from time to time to various requests for information sent to us by state agencies, we are not aware of a joint investigation by a group of states," a CVS Caremark spokeswoman told Dow Jones Newswires. Last year, the Federal Trade Commission said it was probing CVS Caremarks practices after complaints arose that alleged CVS guided customers to its drugstores based on patient data it had acquired through its pharmacy-benefit operation. … [Read more...]
